Reading about the first churches you will learn about the two main compositional types that were introduced in the early stages of Christian architecture. The two types are the basilica and the central-planned church. In this assignment you will compare and contrast them, explain their main elements, reflect on their differences and similarities. Include one example for each type. The purpose of this assignment is to demonstrate your understanding of centrally-planned and basilican churches, their architectural elements. Make sure to address where each type was particularly popular.
