Reading Response

There are 6 Blackboard post assignments spaced throughout the semester. Their due dates are listed on the schedule of events. For each post, you should write at least 300 words on your choice of reading text, ask one question, and answer one question. So at the end of the semester, you will have 6 commentaries, 6 questions, and 6 or more replies.
Directions

1. Read SMH – Pages 534 to 597.
2. Choose and copy a short passage that captures the essence of what you want to comment about it.
3. Indicate the title, author, and page number.
4. Write your 300-word comment about the passage.
5. At the bottom of your post, ask your classmates a specific question about their opinions about your topic.
6. Wait for others to ask questions, and answer one.

Notes : Do not summarize the entire text. No research should be done. Comment and answer from your own opinion. When creating a post, it is best to type it in Word and then paste it into Blackboard so that you have a copy in case Bb crashes. Do not use attachments for the posts.

Turning in the Posts

These assignments will be posted in Blackboard. Posting is easy. It works just like an email. All the “Course Tools” are on the left side of the screen after logging into our Blackboard course site. Click on “Bb Posts” then 3 more times until you see a gray box reading “Create Thread.” At the bottom of this page is a short sample of part of a post. It is very short so is intended to be a format example.

For the Subject of each post, please use the following format, which is the post number:

Subject: RR5
Short Sample _________________________________________________________________________

“I think partly it related to that time when he, after 1980, he realized that he was not going to be president of the United States … and that being a United States senator was a pretty important and powerful job in which he could do good.”

Title: “Friends.”
Author: Tim O’Brien.
Text: The Things They Carried
Page: 202.

Not everyone can be a senator, but even less can be president. Regardless of that, Kennedy’s realization is an important one for humanity. It is important to know what we are capable of and do the best we can with what we have even if we do not achieve our ideal. For almost 47 years, Kennedy has been one of 100 people who make important decisions about the country. Someone can only be president, at most, for eight years. He has governed for almost 40 years more than any president of the U.S. ever could. Love or hate the guy, we can all take note of his longevity and the power he yields. He had to make the choice to be the best at what he was capable of achieving. 47 years is an impressive record. Anyone doing anything for 45 years has both good and bad things to teach us. It is always important to analyze and learn from what people do and say.
