Students will be expected to develop, research, and write an essay of approximately ten to twelve pages focusing on some aspect of political realism, its varieties, its limitations, and its contributions to the field of international relations. The paper must be hand delivered in class on Wednesday, November 23, just before Thanksgiving break. However, in preparation for writing this essay, you need to accomplish two things weeks earlier. First, provisional topic statements of no more than two paragraphs should be submitted (in class) for consideration by Monday, October 24. Your topic statement should present both the key questions or issues you will take up in your essay and the approach you will take in response to these questions or issues.
