1,Create constancy of purpose toward improvement of product and service, with the aim to become competitive and to stay in business, and to provide jobs.
2, Adopt the new philosophy. We are in a new economic age. Western management must awaken to the challenge, must learn their responsibilities, and take on leadership for change.
3.Cease dependence on inspection to achieve quality. Eliminate the need for inspection on a mass basis by building quality into the product in the first place.
4. End the practice of awarding business on the basis of price tag. Instead, minimize total cost. Move toward a single supplier for any one item, on a long-term relationship of loyalty and trust.
5. Improve constantly and forever the system of production and service, to improve quality and productivity, and thus constantly decrease costs.
6. Institute training on the job.
7. Institute leadership (see Point 12 and Ch. 8). The aim of supervision should be to help people and machines and gadgets to do a better job. Supervision of management is in need of overhaul, as well as supervision of production workers.
8. Drive out fear, so that everyone may work effectively for the company (see Ch. 3).
9. Break down barriers between departments. People in research, design, sales, and production must work as a team, to foresee problems of production and in use that may be encountered with the product or service.
10. Eliminate slogans, exhortations, and targets for the work force asking for zero defects and new levels of productivity. Such exhortations only create adversarial relationships, as the bulk of the causes of low quality and low productivity belong to the system and thus lie beyond the power of the work force.
11. Eliminate work standards (quotas) on the factory floor. Substitute leadership.
12. Eliminate management by objective. Eliminate management by numbers, numerical goals. Substitute leadership.
Remove barriers that rob the hourly worker of his right to pride of workmanship. The responsibility of supervisors must be changed from sheer numbers to quality.

Deming’s Four Points
Quality management in organizations, both private and public, has become a prerequisite for business growth and achievement of a competitive edge. The adoption and implementation of Edward Deming’s fourteen points constitute an excellent managerial strategy for ensuring that the business operations remain steady while protecting investors and jobs. In this paper, the researcher will examine ways of improving learning and classroom performance using Deming’s philosophy with a specific focus on four of his points.
The first point that can be easily applied to a school environment is instituting modern methods of training on the job (point 6) (Deming, 2002). This point posits that management in a business set up needs training to learn all aspects of the company such as customer needs, issues facing workers amongst others. In a school set up, teachers need to be trained to handle emerging issues that affect their students and on effective teaching methods. For instance, information technologies have eased education by availing more opportunities for research, online interaction with teachers as well as handling assignments. However,these technologies have some drawbacks, for example, addiction to social media and cyber bullying. Training teachers on how to use these technologies will ensure that they are more productive in their work and understand and address issues affecting students aptly. This in turn will result in improved learning and classroom performance of students.
Another point that can be easily applied in a school set up is the one that entails adopting and instituting a leadershipphilosophy (point 7) (Deming, 2002). Deming posited that leaders not only supervise their juniors but also help them to be productive in their work. In a school set up, the school administration needs to learn on better ways of supporting their teachers by creating a conducive teaching environment as opposed to supervising them or following them unnecessarily. This in turn builds a sense of confidence amongst the teachers and increases their productivity. For instance, these teachers are able to inspire their students in class by being role models and classroom managers as opposed to harsh supervisors. As role models, the teachers may create conducive environments whereby students are able to express themselves without being fearful of being ridiculed or reprimanded. Students can also be encouraged to choose their leaders from amongst them which makes them feel involved and cherished hence improve performance.
Another Deming point that can be applied to the school environment is to drive out fear(point 8) (Deming, 2002). Deming contends that no one can perform optimally in an insecure environment. Schools need to drive out fear within the school premises; teachers need not fear their administrator just as students need not fear their teachers. Both teachers and their students should be able to express their ideas freely or ask questions for clarification without the fear of intimidation. This will in turn boost learning and academic performance in the school as students will be in a position to seek clarification whenever they feel that they have not understood a certain concept. Teachers, on the other hand, will be free to propose new changes that will improve classroom performance or to question certain detrimental management practices.
A fourth point that can be applied in a school involves setting up to improve performance is to eliminate slogans, exhortations and targets (point 10) (Deming, 2002). Quite often, many schools have adopted certain slogans and set numerous high targets. Unfortunately, this creates an unfavorable learning atmosphere as teachers and students struggle to beat reach the set targets. For instance, if a school sets the target as 75%, students and teachers will have to work overtime to achieve the targets which may result in unnecessary overloads, tensions and finally rebellion. Removing them will there create a non-pressurized learning environment which will encourage them to give their best without ending up fatigued.
