examine why some programs

ASSIGNMENT 1: As can be found within the Content section (slides) of Module 3:

Research the various drug prevention programs (family-based, school-based, etc.) utilized today and examine why some programs have been more successful than others in fighting drug abuse. Follow the guidelines below for submission of the assignment. When you review programs be sure you review specific programs found within the areas noted above (i.e. family based):

Submit Assignment 1 via the Module 3 Dropbox no later than Sunday 11:59 PM EST/EDT. (This Dropbox basket is linked to Turnitin.) The percent of match for this assignment must be below 20%. A match above 35% will result in an automatic F. All work must be labeled with your name, assignment, and the module number (e.g., Smith_Assignment1_Mod3).

GRADING ASSIGNMENT 1:

The first and third assignments are 3 page papers on a particular topic. While the topic can be found within the Module for that week (review the Module Content slides to find the actual topic) it has been noted above for your convenience.

Keep in mind the three page paper is the minimum expectation and does not include the cover page or the reference (bibliography) page. Significant points will be subtracted if a paper is less than the minimum. While I am not looking for a 10 page paper, the expectation is that you are researching* and presenting some depth to the overall presentation.

*In terms of the research you conduct please note that you should not use the course textbook (Hanson et. al. 2012) or encyclopedias (physical or online).

Format and Grading:

The following are the basic expectations:

1. The paper must be a minimum of 3 pages in length, excluding the title and reference pages.

2. Use Times New Roman or Arial 11-point font, double-spaced with proper grammar.

3. Completely document references using APA format (text citations and reference page).

4. Resources used should not include the course textbook or encyclopedias.

The Assignments will be graded in two parts, Content and Research:

Under Content aspects reviewed will include:

1. How well you have organized your thoughts and information

2. The format and flow of your presentation

3. Your use of English grammar, vocabulary and punctuation

4. Your mastery of the topic

Under Research aspects reviewed will include:

1. The depth of your research (how many sources were used).

2. The quality of the research (Journal and other professional sources being more heavily weighted)

3. The technical presentation of sources. Are they in APA format? Are sources noted in the body of the text where they apply as well as in the bibliography?
