The data-driven healthcare movement is premised on the idea that better data will lead to better patient outcomes. By looking at patterns in adverse events, for example, hospitals can determine where they need to focus quality improvement efforts and track the results of those efforts over time (Strauss, 2016). In order to impact hospital performance and patient outcomes, data must be easy to find, use and understand. There are four critical factors that hospital, health network and state association leaders should be looking for when it comes to leveraging analytics for quality improvement. These factors are actionable insights, time to value, accessibility and flexibility, and benchmarking and collaboration (Strauss, 2016).An example that comes to mind is when I worked as a Transition of Care Nurse and our population of patient shifted from the Medicare senior population to a younger Medicaid population and our rate of engagement with the same tools declined significantly. It mainly related to trying to get this population of patient’s population on the phone. By researching evidence-based practices and looking at how the health plan case managers were able to engage this population we were able to use that data to determine that using texting technology we could better engage our patient population.References:Strauss, W.
